Letters and images Day 5

Today was the final whole day on the course. Tomorrow it will end at lunchtime. The subject of today was to find marks in many different ways. Using tools such as coins, sewing, stencils, rubbing over different patterned objects etc. But it could also be marks from more traditional tools and letterforms. I use most of my day doing a quote from Melanie Reim with some stealing from Paul Klee.

Letters and images Day 4

The subject of today was to do some sort of "mind map". For me the obvious thing was a "map" of our home at Stenlia. First I thought of doing it in a bird perspective and look into the houses without roof. But then I changed my mind and has made it possible to open the roofs and look in. This became such a huge project that I hadn't time to finish it during the day. I have also made drawings of horses and our dog Bella that shall be glued on.

Letters and images Day 2 and 3

Time flies when you're in a couse like this. On Day 2 was our exercise to work with lettering, movement and contrast in ink, charcoal, markers, crayons etc. It was interesting to see all the different pictures that was made. These are mine in black and white.

On Day 3 was the exercise to make something in three dimensions. This is really something I like and during tje day I made four different things. There were a couple of others that did books but there was also a lot of collages made.

It is hard to capture the "books" in a picture. You must hold them in order to see how they work.

Lettering and image - day 1

Today was the first day of the course. We started after lunch. First there was a short introduction and a historic presentation about development of letters. Our first exercise was to make signs to represent our names.

Then each of us made a picture of something we remembered from our journey to the course and another person made signs to represent the picture.

My picture was from my drive to Gerlesborg.

Lettering and image, 1

Packing my stuff for a five day course "lettering and image" at Gerlesborg Art School. It's ridiculous how much things that seems absolutely necessary to pack! Guess I will only use part of them.

Quote by Tranströmer for Sketchbook Skool

Today I have worked with a short part from a poem by Tomas Tranströmer. It is hard to make a perfect lettering in a short time but I did two different versions this evening. Same text but totally different.

Screw punch box

Today I have made a box for my screw punch. I had bought the material from a bookbinder in UK. http://www.elbel-libro.com

I am very pleased with the result.

Paper cutting

Har äntligen köpt mig en rejäl pappers/kartongsax. Hoppas det ska bli lättare än att skära allt för hand.

Finally I have bought myself a good pappercutter. Hope it will be easier to cut with it than to cut by hand.
